The African savanna is home to many animals like lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and wildebeests. Each of these animals has special ways to live in this environment. For example, giraffes have long necks to reach the leaves on tall trees, and elephants have big ears that help them stay cool. Every year, millions of wildebeests and zebras travel across the Serengeti in a huge migration, looking for fresh grass to eat. This journey is one of the most incredible events in the natural world and shows how the animals of the savanna depend on the changing seasons to survive.
This kit is packed with supplies and fun, hands-on learning experiences to introduce kids to the African savanna ecosystem and some physical and behavioral adaptations animals use to thrive in the grasslands. They’ll learn where the African savanna is located, some of the animals that live there, what (and whom!) those animals eat, how they work together, and so much more!

Learning Tips
Learning Tips
We’ve divided the learning experiences into eight sections, and we recommend doing the activities in the order suggested as some build upon the next. However, you don’t need to complete all the lesson activities at once if that’s too much for your schedule. Just pause and pick up where you left off next time. Doing these activities two days a week will take four weeks to complete the unit. The activities in this kit were designed for K to 4th graders. But we know kids are at all different levels and interests, so feel free to skip or add-to an activity if it isn’t right for your child(ren). That’s what Schoolhouse Discoveries are all about - having fun learning and finding ways that best fit your needs.
